We recently completed a full Engineered Flooring Installation project in a residential property located in Newham, E16 (Feb 2025). This project covered multiple living spaces including two bedrooms, one reception room, one living room, and a full staircase, requiring a detailed and thorough approach from subfloor preparation to final finishing. The project was designed to not only enhance the aesthetics of the interior but also to improve underfoot comfort, insulation, and long-term structural performance. The scope of work included:
Before commencing, a detailed assessment was carried out across all rooms and stair areas to evaluate the existing condition of the subfloor, structural integrity of joists, and any underlying issues such as dampness or uneven surfaces.
Key Features of the Renovation::
✅ Floor Levelling. One of the key elements of this installation was ensuring a level and stable base. Uneven areas were corrected by adjusting the existing floorboards—cutting them to the correct size and securely fixing them to the existing joists. Using a laser level, we achieved a perfectly flat subfloor, which is critical for the stability and longevity of engineered flooring.
✅ Joist Repair and Replacement. Damaged or sagging joists were identified, removed, and replaced with new timber sections, secured to meet current building standards. All joists were checked for proper spacing and bracing to eliminate bounce and movement, ensuring a solid foundation.
✅ Floor Insulation. To improve thermal and acoustic performance, high-grade insulation was installed between the joists. This significantly helps in reducing energy bills, minimising sound transmission between floors, and improving the overall comfort of the home.
✅ Chipboard Subfloor Installation. Once the joists and insulation were in place, structural chipboard panels were laid across all rooms. The panels were tongue-and-groove type for added strength and to prevent movement or creaking. All joints were glued and screwed down to ensure a solid and level base for the engineered flooring.
✅ Engineered Wood Flooring Installation. Premium quality engineered wood flooring was selected for its durability, natural appearance, and suitability. Each plank was pre-finished with a protective topcoat, making it ready for immediate use after installation.
✅ Fitting Method. The flooring was installed without underlay but glue-down techniques were used to ensure extra rigidity all-round the premises including stairs.
✅ Staircase Installation. Staircases require precision fitting and bespoke carpentry. Engineered treads and risers were cut and fitted to match the rest of the flooring, creating a seamless transition and polished appearance. Stair nosing were custom matched to ensure safety and aesthetic cohesion.
✅ Finishing Touches.
- All edges were finished with matching skirting boards.
- Expansion gaps were left strategically around the perimeter to allow for natural wood movement.
- The entire floor was cleaned, buffed, and inspected for quality assurance.
